In my 30 years working in early childhood education, I’ve seen one truth play out over and over again — before learning can happen, relationships must come first.
I’ve worked with children who struggled with behavior, confidence, and even simple daily routines. Many times, the problem wasn’t the child… it was that they didn’t yet feel safe, understood, or connected.
I’ve seen classrooms transform when a teacher took time to truly know a child — and I’ve seen children thrive when parents and caregivers worked together instead of separately.
Strong relationships change everything.
When children feel secure, they are more willing to try, to learn, and to grow.
This month, we’re focusing on the power of relationships — because whether you are a parent choosing care, an educator in the classroom, or someone thinking about starting a home daycare…
Connection is where success begins.
Over the years, I’ve seen children labeled as “difficult” when really they were unsure, overwhelmed, or disconnected.
When time was taken to build trust first — behaviors often improved naturally.
This is why strong relationships at home and in childcare matter so much.
Connection builds confidence.
Confidence builds cooperation.
Cooperation supports learning.
Quality care goes beyond supervision.
Children thrive in environments where:
• Daily activities are planned
• Routines are predictable
• Communication is open
• Emotional needs are supported
Whether you're a parent choosing care or someone considering opening a home daycare — intentional care makes a lasting difference.
When looking for care, consider asking:
• How do you communicate with families?
• How much outdoor time do children get?
• What safety measures are in place?
• Are daily activities planned?
• Can parents drop in anytime?
Strong partnerships start with open communication.
Support your child’s development with structured routines.
